Possible causes of Kip rules not being applied

There are 3 possible causes for the rules not being applied at checkout, here we tell you how to fix them:

Reason #1: Your rule status

If you want to see the rule working at your store's checkout, remember to set your rule status to Active or Testing. If you set it up in the Testing status, remember to enter the testing@kip.com email when entering your checkout:

testing@kip.com email in the checkout

Reason #2: Your rule payment methods are not matching the real names

This is the most common reason for the rule not being applied: it is possible that the rule payment methods are not matching with the name of your store's checkout, keep in mind that there are some payment methods with internal names which are trickier than other ones.

First, let's check if this is actually the reason behind the rule not working:

  1. Enter the payment methods in your rule
  2. Set the rule with no condition (Always applies)
  3. Save the rule
  4. Open your store's checkout, validate if the rule is being applied

If you don't see the rule being applied, then the payment methods names are the problem, otherwise you can skip to the following Conditions section in this guide.

How to fix the payment methods names not matching

To easily match your payment method name, you can use the Contains Selector, which makes sure that any payment method that includes the piece of text will be considered in the rule.

To use the Contains Selector, you can use the payment methods input, and enter words of the payment method inside asterisks. For example: if you are having trouble matching the "Cash on Delivery (COD)" method, you can try entering a *cash* value or a *cod* value, as shown in the following images:

Other example use cases:

  1. If you can't match "Viva Wallet", you can try entering *viva* and *wallet*
  2. If you can't match "Mercado Pago", you can try entering *mercado* and *pago*
  3. If you can't match "OP Lasku", you can try entering *op* and *lasku*

After using the Contains Selector with your payment method, it will be easily matched and it will properly apply the rule at your checkout.

Reason #3: The rule condition is not being met

The last possible reason is that your rule's condition is not being met at your checkout. This totally depends on the condition that you selected, but here are some example cases to properly test the available conditions:

  1. Cart total weight condition: make sure to select the proper unit of weight measurement in the condition section
  2. Cart items SKUs condition: make sure to add the respective product to the cart
  3. Customer email condition: make sure to enter that email at your store's checkout
  4. Selected shipping method name condition: make sure to enter the exact name of the shipping method as shown in your Settings > Shipping and delivery section of your admin
  5. Country condition: make sure to enter a shipping address of your selected country at your store's checkout to properly test it
  6. Province code / State code condition: make sure to add the value as the abbreviated code of the province/state that you are trying to select. Here is an example of the USA state codes.
